Fly Tying Floss

Floss has often been used as the body for flies, from trout to traditional salmon patterns. Typically these have been heavy, thick flosses. Semperfli team decided to change the rules, creating a thin floss, just 400 Denier that could be used for smaller trout flies and simply doubled over for use on Salmon patterns including classic salmon flies. By creating a thinner fly tying floss the capabilities and uses of this stunning material are enhanced so it can be used as the body for flies of many sizes.

Sometimes called Thinskin, Scud or Nymph back from other companies. Semperfli Bugback 1/8″ Thin Skin is flexible clear 1/8″ (3mm) wide Black stretchy material (thinner than our standard ideal for using on various nymphs, scuds, wet flies, saltwater etc. 5 feet per pack. Makes perfect czech nymphs or shrimps which can be made bulletproof with a coating of No Tack UV for a hard shell back which is virtually indestructible.

Semperfli 0.1mm wire is ultrafine, non tarnishing and can be used for even small dry flies. It is micro light and with a massive range of colors will be suitable for most flies from March Brown to Mayfly patterns.

Tie on and tie off with thread. Rather than cutting simply wiggle and it will break saving damage to your scissors.

What makes it unique is the additional metallic strand woven through Quick Dub Glint. When you wind Quick Dub Glint over a body its magical feature quickly stands out. The metallic strand quickly appears as ribbing along the length of the fly. Semperfli Oliver Edwards Masterclass Subs 4 Rhyacophila

We used this many years ago and had great success with the original wool from Oliver Edwards. It had been discontinued but we kept some by for that odd very special trip. The team at Semperfli decided to get more to match exactly the original material from Oliver and we do not beleive you will get any closer match to the original Rhyacophila wool.

Semperfli Chadwick’s 477 Subs

This new ‘477’ has been specially developed to replicate as close as possible to the classic Sawyer Bug tying wool. Originally Sawyer used Chadwicks 477 and as perfectionists found other substitutes simply did not match the original material for colour. The Semperfli team actually got a factory to spin some Chadwick’s 477 substitute especially! It comes as a 3 ply making tying of the nice thick Sawyer Killer Bug a doddle. However to perfectly replicate the original Killer Bug simply split the 477 Substitute from 3 ply to one and it matches even the diameter of the original 477.

You are buying our Semperfli Chadwick’s 477 Substitute not the Original Chadwicks 477 shown on any photos on this page – they are purely for illustration to show you how close to the original Chadwick’s 477 colour the guys at Semperfli have been able to match the substitute.
